DSC_7914The board of the Yusuf Karodia Foundation is saddened to announce the passing of its founder Professor (Prof) Yusuf Mahomed Karodia. Prof Karodia succumbed to the Covid 19 virus after three weeks of high care and hospitalisation on the 23 December 2020. It is indeed a very significant loss for the community and country since Prof Karodia was a beacon of hope for the previously disadvantaged, the less fortunate and those who were part of his various initiatives.

He leaves behind his wife Zulaka, daughter Ayesha and her husband Zeyn, his son Mahomed and his wife Anisah, and six grandchildren, Mishka, Zahraa, Maarya, Hannah, Aaliyah and Yusuf. The entire family has gracefully shared Prof Karodia with the public and we keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time. Tributes from all over the world are being received and the board of the foundation thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers.

Importantly, the passing of the founder and legend, a man who has made an unreserved lifetime commitment to the advancement of the quality of life of ordinary people serves as a catalyst to increase our efforts towards realising his intentions and goals. We commit to upholding Prof Karodia’s intentions with utmost diligence, fortitude and purpose.

We will always be reminded of Prof Karodia’s words of advice and will hold on dearly to them to guide the foundation forward. “Speak truth to power, find your love for people, act now, be brave with no fear, be appreciative of what you have” are his words which epitomises his existence and as such will guide the board in their endeavours.

Mahomed Karodia (son of Prof Karodia and board member) has affirmed the family’s continued commitment to advance the work his father had started and in doing so, calls upon the community to join forces towards improving the lives of ordinary people, serving the needy, educating the less fortunate, bringing hope and purpose to the community and to ensure perpetual value creation through the foundation.

We call upon the community to keep the Karodia family in your prayers.
